Why does Australian govt allow H4 Visa holders to work unlike the US Govt does??????
Doesn't AU government know that H4 visa holders don't necessarily have the same skills as the H1 holders do? May be in AU, there is no provision to change from H4 to H1. In the US, you can always change from H4 to H1, if you want to work. In the US, every visa is different. You just need to get the right visa according to your needs.
I hope this helps people who don't know that H4 to H1 is possible.

I've had some experience with Air France. BTW I have never flown with them. My father died on an Air France plane many years ago. His body was unloaded in Paris, and stayed there for 14 days while the French were celebrating Bastille day.
Maybe it was the association with this loss and Air France that made me never look at them. But also they are pretty expensive, no?

I was thinking about PMI, CISA and MBA right from the time I landed in US in 1999. Then I realized that I need to get an GC to make use of those. Then I started to look for a stable company where I can start my GC process. It took three years toll till then. I joined a good ameican company as a perm employee. They did not file my GC as they promised and I had to quit to join another company for the heck of my GC and for my (my wife with CPA / CA is on H4 for 5th year now) dream career. I had to go many step back in technology with the new company but I sucessfully managed to file my GC.
Then what? When I finished studying my PMI, all the retrogression story started. Then I had to ask questions my self.
1. With PMI certification in 2004, if I am doing a Sr. Software engineer, will it not raise questions down the line in my career interviews. May be yes or no, but I do not have answers.
2. With PMI Cert in 2004, if I can get my GC in 2005, I am pretty sure I could manage any questions throws at me, but not in 2008 or 2010. So I dropped the idea on PMI / CISA/ GMAT until I have 50% certanity of when I will be getting my GC in hand.
3. The worst will be starting an MBA with good univeristy and competing it in next two years with zero hope of getting GC then. What would you do if you are not even closer to file your 485 when you have MBA degree in hand. You will have career in your home country with this MBA for sure, but who will pay your debts here. It is like shooting yourself on your foot with golden gun. Atleast you will be satsifed it is golden gun, but the end result is hurting yourselves.
4. So what is the option? Never give up. There are always difficult times for everyone. What we are facing is nothing. There are people who are graduating at the age of 70 in US. I have seen a lady at the age of 70 graduating with MAB from Harvard. I thought she did it for fun, but in an interview she said she wants to pursue her career in marketing field. This is an eye opener for me. So prepare yourself with TOEFL and GMAT. These scores are valid for 5 years. Join from volunteer organizations and develop your leadership skills. Reco letters from these orgs will have great impact when you apply for MBA infuture. Most of all it is right way to live a peaceful life atleast if you do not go the MBA route, you will develop the skills needed for your life.

Following is copied from Greg Siskind's Blog, and it makes me wonder if it means that those who who filed I-140 by mail can submit I-485 with the I-140 receipt number only that can be obtained from the cleared check?
---------
But you need an I-140 receipt to file the adjustment petition and the I-140 receipt can take forever to get. So what to do?
File the I-140 electronically, of course. You get a receipt right off your own printer. Then submit the I-485 with that receipt. Brilliant and so simple.

Yep, its official. They will blindly approve all pending EADs before June 30th. How can they be so obviously greedy?

140 reached NSC on July 11.
Receipt date is July 17, attorney says they got it today, July 24.
So for those at NSC who filed within a day or two of me, mght be better to hold off for a couple of days before filing 485 with the colored sheet which will probably add some delays in the mailroom
mine reached NSC on July 16th...hopefully i ll recieve it by next week.

Most countries do not have 9,800 EB applicants every year - in fact, most countries use well under 1,000.
The total number of applicants from other countries can be derived from roughly estimating number if H1 holders, adjusting for Indians and Chinese, and then dividing by 2 (50% of H1Bs never end up getting a green card), and then multiplying by 2 to adjust for derivatives. The bottom line - there are visas available in EB2 ROW and EB1 categories (which are current, meaning, undersubscribed), that are getting redistributed to EB3 ROW. This is why EB3 in total is using more than its share of 140,000 EBs. In fact, I believe the dates will be moving pretty fast on EB3 ROW, it will probably get all current in a couple of years.
From the last report of FLC.
80,029 cases certified between Oct. 1, 2005, and Sep. 30, 2006.
55 % were issued for workers from just the five countries of India, China, South Korea, Philippines, and Mexico.

Is english speaking required to qualify for EB2 ? who diminished the country image ? In our company Indians are highly regarded and yes most of us work for desi companies . Dont blame others just becasue your company dont sponsor in EB2.
Are you from different world. Yes it is necessary even to get the H1. Now I understand why the anti-immigrants are targetting us. Do you mean to say the English speaking people diminished this country. Can we replace all these guys with mullas. What are you trying to say..

I've been reading some great human interest stories in various threads here on ImmigrationVoice.org. I know that there was some interest earlier in creating short videos on people who've been waiting forever for their green cards. Why not channelize this into a single place where we can gather these stories in a more compelling format?
Here's an idea that I've been toying with for sometime. If we can take all these stories from all over the country and instead of using words to describe them, use small videos (60 - 90s) or a narrated slideshow to tell these stories and have them available via a single website. We would use YouTube to actually hold the video. We could have it sliced by region/state/city. We could have a running counter to show the average number of years people registered on the site have been wating for their green card. That could be a great place to refer to the media to portray that there are some really great people out there with a compelling reason to live in this country but the green card process is a big stumbling block.
The most important part is that the stories need to be positive, not sob stories. They should bristle with energy, to convey to the people and media at large that by wasting the energy of all these people in green card process, the US is essentially not able to channelize this for more productive use. If people are interested then please email me at vikas.chowdhry@gmail.com and if there is sufficient positive response then I can get the ball rolling.

Yes. Completely agreed.
I've an idea that I want to discuss at the Meet. It will not only help us show the World how much we contribute (real figures), but also get our group (state chapter) legitimacy in the eyes of Lawmakers. It also might get us some media attention. This and other ideas will be Exclusively premiered at the Meeting. So anybody interested, be there.
Anybody with great ideas - FIFO for GCs, Earned GCs (based on years in US) included, be there at the meet. We'll surely forward these ideas to the Core. If there's a great demand for these ideas at the grassroots, Core'll surely include these as their top agenda. So be there and share your ideas. Ideas will be put to vote and passed on to the Team IV. It's a great opportunity to network with like-minded individuals and push for your ideas.
You are being given a rare and valuable opportunity here. Use it! Don't crib later on IV forums that IV doesn't care. [ I'll be there, for sure, to ask you - Did you care about your state chapter meetings? If Not, why should we care for you?]
PS : Bestin, same here. Lets build a strong network in Michigan and succeed together.
Guys,
We also need to make the public aware what we contribute to the society. Not only our jobs, but also how we contribute to ssn, work without unemployment benefits (when compared to citizens),how much taxes we pay, etcs tatus of h4 dependents without driving licence and with all these stress we also do our job with a smile isnt?WE DEFINITELY NEED TO OVERCOME THE PUBLIC OPINION THAT WE ARE JUST HERE TO TAKEAWAY JOBS.
Rather than mentioning it as our right,we need to make people aware of how we contribute and why we deserve a green card.;)
My 2 cents.
BTB,nice taking to u over phone WD.

This is good news but we should focus on our current priorities and help IV core members to accomplish our main goal. Yesterday only I contributed to IV and I hope rest of the members do the same.

I have absolutely no right to ask that question because i have never contributed money.
See, you are a rational human being and know what to ask for...
But when i am told that I dont have access to this thread or that thread because I am not a donor...I do have the right to question if this organization actually represents all immigrants or just the donors?? If the motto of IV becomes "Change for fairness and justice (For Donors Only)" then it would make a lot more sense to me. But as long as IV keeps on harping that they represent the plight of legal immigrants (which I am) then I do have the right to ask the question ..."What exactly has IV done?" .
Oops, ok.. I will take that rational thing back.. a lawyer who get paid by you "represents" you and anything he says will be treated as your word. similarly, PR people who get paid and "represents" you - yeah, their statements are counted as yours.. you have a right over their actions that are "representing" you.. you can sue them, fire them etc... now, IV "representing" legal immigration - and you as legal immigration claiming rights over thier action.. are they really the same ?? i don't think both the above "representations" are the same.. enligten me.. how can you claim the right to ask IV anything ..
Asking the question is never the problem, it may make people uncomfortable but I want people (like yourself) who are contributing to at least ask IV before ranting on people like me (who dont contribute) to support the cause...).
hmmn.. back on being rational again... Thats where the DONOR forum begins.. so that we can "rightfully" ask the updates and get them
Supporting the cause is NOT equal to giving IV money.
I agree.. and you don't have any right to question the morality of IV or anyone who is contributing.. there are many many threads asking CORE questions about what they are doing and most of them don't have time to read through old posts.. CORE can only answer so many posts a day.. so, the DONOR forum which should be easy for them to manage...
The republicans already tried something similar ..."If you are anti-war, you dont support the troops"..That was fallacious
yeah.. look where Repulicans are now..
and so are all the personal attacks on the "freeloaders" (like myself ofcourse).
the so called attacks are only when freeloaders DEMAND the answers and then talk about their rights because they are "legal"..
ever heard of the statement "ask not what the country has done for you but ask what you have done for the country ?" - I guess the gist is, because you are born doesn't give you any right to demand.. so, if you replace "legal immigration community" in the above statement, what have we done to the legal immigration community ?? IV is educating people to understand our plights and our DC rally is a good effort in that step - are you there in that rally supporting the community ?? if you are - atleast you are doing someting.. if you think that I am ranting on those who didn't show-up.. may be I am.. thats one opportunity we missed and since then we had electons, change of congress. we may have another rally soon.. when the IV comes up with another effort like that, will you come join me at that rally?

One option for H4s could be to involve in organizations like Bill and Melinda Gates foundation or similar social service organizations. Well educated people can do wonders in social service. Everyone must do social service, it would be great if H4s can occupy themselves more into voluntary work etc...
