USCIS is clearly requesting for two passport size photos with AP application.
It is surprising that most people don't even read basic instructions with the USCIS forms, and go on asking questions and sometimes giving (wrong) suggestions in IV. Yeah, it takes a few minutes to look through the instructions but searching/writing/replying/ doubting/making mistakes/giving red dots/ etc in IV takes more time, I think. :)
I e-file my AP and I got receipt notice immediately after completion of e-file. And I got the direction on the PDF listed bellow. USCIS clearly mentioned DO NOT send Copy of ID, Photos unless they requested. Thats why I didn't send any documents to USCIS.
6) DO NOT mail photos or copies of identification unless requested to do so by USCIS.[/COLOR]

Most people showing their cool wisdom still not getting the point. A BEC person with Feb 2005 PD may not be able to file for another 2 years while a PD 2007 person will be enjoying EAD during that time. In my dictionary this is injustice. And that's why i was kinda happy when they updated the July bulletin, now I'm not really happy even if my company has already filed my 485/EAD on july 2. I'm still wishing (and i'll be honest) USCIS come up with a reason/regulation/rule that will delay EAD for everyone until BEC people are able to file 485 OR in Oct they retrogress only till March 2005.
P.S. if you are superstitious, you want to know this: most of my relatives/freinds call me "Black Tongue" because usually when i say something unpleasent it happens. e.g. i told my wife last month that i don't believe everyone is able to file 485, something will go wrong and everyone will be disappointed. (when everyone expects something it does not happen- contrarian theory)
Wow! I know someone just like you. She has been cribbing, crying and cursing because I have a 2005 PD and she has a 2004 PD and we are filing 485 together. The sad part is she is able to file 485 and her jealously is because we are doing it together. She says she should be much ahead of me by now :) :D

I think a change of leadership of IV is critical if we have to get anywhere. IV has not been able to achieve a single thing in all of its existence. Not a single thing, nada, zitto, zapata. Not disclosing the issues they are working on, not disclosing how the funds are distributed, not disclosing the lobbyist they are using. Who in the world calls that leadership!
That is the reason that no one wants to contribute. First get some results, show people results for what they have paid for. Then ask for more money. Most people I talk to are confident that IV will achieve nothing given their track record. I tried to convince a colleague to join IV. He bet with me that they will not be able to achieve even this filing I-485 issue. He bet that he will join and pay if they did.
I know IV works like dIVorced wIVes club and saying anything negative is taboo. Anyone saying anything negative is crushed with (p)curses. Only good mushy things are allowed here. So here it is: We will get our GCs by the end of the month. Hallelujah!
But I am writing this for the benefit of IV and please take this as constructively as you can. As a member, I have full right to suggest a change of leadership when I think it can help.
Nice to hear from you.
Pls. update your profile so that you are not an annonymous member and can talk to you. We definately want your leadership skills and abilities since you have been with IV for past one year and seen how we have grown and struggled to reach where we are now. Do come to DC and help us. We need people like you to help us run around and meet lawmaker offices, contact other organizations, contact employers, communicate with IV members, manage forums, contact and manage media efforts, manage funds, manage lobbying efforts with the lobbyists, go to conferences and meetings to give presentations or to simply meet people hoping for help for our cause etc etc.
We are just overwhelmed with so many tasks and most of the above tasks happen during business hours. So we find it increasingly tough to manage both our jobs and IV work. We are trying to do all the above and have requested all members to actively participate in at least their state chapters to help us out. I am sure you must have successfully led your state chapter, met all your lawmakers from your state, contacted your employer for support and have enough management experience and drive to get something done.
Please contact us and we will be happy to discuss this exciting possibility with you.
Thanks

Was listening to NPR today and some anti-immigration group apparently sent 700,000 web faxes/emails to get the current CIR bill down. Try matching that at IV... Also mentioned that their members called the lawmakers in thousands.
The group is not NumbUSA. Some other group.....

Pappu,
I totally agree with what you have said. I think that we need to step up our efforts....if money is going to be a problem then we need to start threads for fund raising with a set target.

I am not sure about effect of patriot act, but some of my friends who left in 2002 era still have accounts here. Another friend left for Banglore but his 401K is still here.

How about fasting for a day or two during the holiday season around xmas?-maybe a relay fast running for a month or two with employees from big name firms taking the lead like microsoft fob's skipping meals on mondays to be followed by Deloitte fob's on a tuesday and so on? skipping meals to donate that money to starving people is a fairly common tactic used to raise money for worthy causes and one that would resonate with the average american easily. I can try to persuade a dozen of my coworkers to skip a lunch - ofc ourse this would work only if we get media coverage -the upside is the cnn/foxnews xenophobic anchors would find it hard to spin this one against us! Also, we should relentlessly stay on an agreed message which could even be just stating the obvious - like we have gone thru a process where employers have actually advertised and found no one suitable for the job etc..

Guys,
....
I guess (just by reading posts on IV) one point which came out pretty clearly was that IV has good support in some regions and really very little support in some others (support as in visible support, where people are willing to show up for rallies, contribute to IVs efforts etc), I guess this pretty much means that we need to focus on building the regional chapters of IV, like have strong/formal leadership and goals of each of the chapters.
...
Agree with you 100%. Instead of 'forming' state chapters in the last moment, they need to be established, nourished, strengthened and developed over a period of time. A grassroots movement needs strong roots in all regions.
I was also thinking that we can possibly learn a lot from the protests by undocumented immigrants. They had record turnouts in their rallies and most of their people stayed away from work to take part in the efforts when ever there was a call for the same.
With all due respect, it was a disaster. They ended up scaring Americans - by holding Flags of thier countries, holding US flag upside-down or disrespecting US flag in other ways. This provided fodder to anti-immigrants to scare Americans of an 'invasion' of law-breaking aliens.
We need to learn lessons from them, in not committing their mistakes
Some of the advantages of having simultaneous local rallies is that
1) No travel expenses (So that we can spend more money on media and lobbying than travel expenses)
There was a Free Bus from NY/NJ. Yet, how many came?
2) No need to time spent on travel ( Better turnouts)
How many people from DC participated?
3) Comfort every one can just go to a local rally point (Better turnouts)
Those seeking 'comfort', will choose it at home. What better comfort than to sleep on a couch and watch TV?
4) Stronger regional chapters (work at grass root levels)
If wishes were horses...
As of now, idea doesn't look good. 10 people marching in Detroit, 20 in Minneapolis, 40 in New York, 100 in California - will it even be a rally, in the true sense?
....

Here is what Attorney Mathew Oh thinks about provisions for STEM.
Section 406. Visas for Individuals with Advanced Degrees: Section 406 exempts from the numerical cap on employment-based visas aliens with advanced degrees in science, technology, engineering, or math, and has worked in a related field in the U.S. during the 3 year period preceding their application for adjustment of status.
[Matthew Oh Comment: This benefit appears to apply not only to the U.S. earned advanced degree holders but also to those advanced degree holders who earned the degrees in the foreign countries as well.]
It also exempts immediate relatives of aliens who are admitted as employment-based immigrants from the numerical limitations of 203(b).
[Matthew Oh Comment: Exemption from the numerical limitation of spouses and children of EB immigrants and exemption from the numberical limitation of advanced degree holders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics with 3-year employment in the U.S. would practically make a substantially large addtitional numbers available to the total EB immigration numbers beyond the total cap of 290,000.]
Finally, it increases the available visas numbers for H-1B nonimmigrants and provides an exemption from the numerical limitation aliens who have earned advanced degrees in science, technology, engineering, or math.
[Matthew Oh Comment: Currently those advanced degree holders who are benefitted from the different H-1B annual cap are limited to the U.S. earned advanced degree holders. Besides, they are still subject to a cap, albeit separate, of 20,000 annually. This provision appears to make totally H-1Bcap-exempt for those advanced degree holders in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.]
The H-1B numerical limitation is also supplemented with a flexible limitation that is set according to demand for foreign high-skilled workers.

My worry is that the H4 issue is not being raised. I had a look at the immigration reform issues that are going to be discussed at the Senate debate and the H4 situation is not mentioned at all.

..from any single state, afaik (perhaps with the exception of NJ, don't have the exact numbers - but in stark contrast to many other states... ).
Also note, the attendance at short notice for the SJ rally was phenomenal.
Let's just say Californians are more motivated and active then many from the DC area, and you can expect an even larger crowd the next time around, with better planning and more time imo.
jazz
One reason for the poor performance from DC area folks is that a GC does not open many avenues for folks in DC area. You could change from a 70K job to 90K job, may be. In Silicon Valley there are many more opportunities. You are talking about a change from 80K to may be starting a million $$ company.

awesome news logiclife!
whether folks like immigration or not, there is growing realization that the country needs people with the right skills. its a question of competitiveness.
I mean if i were running a corporation, I would get the best person for the job irrespective of where he comes from. A company is only as good as the people working for it- its as simple as that.
IV's CIR amendments can definately improve this bill....hope they are incorporated. As ones suffering from the backlogs and retrogression, we know what will be helpful..hopefully they listen to us too while they formulate policy about us.

Just reporting what I saw on CNN. During the Sen. McCain interview with Judy Judy Woodruff & Richard Stengel, Richard asked something like - what about the green cards for the highly skilled immigrants educated by American Universities. To this Sen. McCain replied implying - they should be given green cards sooner, I am not sure if they could be given automatic green cards but the process should be faster.....
He said it not exactly in these words but implying something to that effect. They were suppose to ask Sen. Obama the exact same questions. Did anyone see Sen. Obama's answer to the question about green card for high skilled immigrants from Richard Stengel? Just curious....
